Our school provides a nurturing, supportive and structured environment for children and young people with autism. We use Applied Behaviour Analysis (ABA) and Verbal Behaviour (VB) approaches to support communication, independence, learning and positive behaviour.

As an ABA/VB Tutor, you will work closely with pupils on an individual and small-group basis, delivering personalised learning programmes and helping them develop skills that can make a meaningful difference to their everyday lives.

About the role You will:

• Supervise and support pupils to ensure their safety and access to learning.
• Establish good relationships with pupils, acting as a role model and being aware of and responding appropriately to individual needs.
• Encourage pupils to interact with others and engage in
• Attend to the pupil’s personal needs and implement related personal programmes
• Encourage pupils to act independently as
• Promote self-esteem and
• Provide feedback to pupils in relation to progress and
• Participate in assessment of pupils, e.g., VBMAPP, AFLLS, lesson reviews.
• Support pupils in specialist areas, e.g., swimming at a local leisure centre.
• Support pupils learning during the lunch and play
• Work with the ABA/VB Class Lead to establish an appropriate learning environment.
• Provide detailed and regular feedback to ABA /VB Class Lead on pupils’ achievement.
• Promote good pupil behaviour, dealing promptly with conflict and incidents in line with the school Positive Behaviour Policy and guidelines regarding physical intervention.

• Monitor and evaluate pupils’ responses to learning activities through observation and planned recording of achievement against pre-determined learning objectives.

Previous ABA/VB experience is desirable but not essential, as full training and support can be provided for the right candidate. Experience working with children or young people with autism, SEND, behavioural needs or complex communication needs would be highly advantageous.

Work Location: In person

This role involves engaging in regulated activity relevant to children and is therefore exempt from the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974. The successful candidate will be required to undertake an enhanced DBS check with children’s barred list clearance and comply with all safeguarding policies and procedures.
