Young Epilepsy is the only UK charity dedicated to creating better lives for children and young people with epilepsy and related conditions and is based on a beautiful campus in Lingfield, Surrey, providing world class services. St Piers school and college provides state-of-the-art facilities, a warm environment and a caring atmosphere, it’s a fantastic place for children with neurological conditions and behavioural difficulties to learn new skills, grow in confidence and make new friends.
These are unique roles, ideally suited to enthusiastic and caring individuals who are able to provide the consistent and positive support our students need to reach their full potential, both in their education and in their daily lives. The roles require flexibility to adapt, innovative thinking and the ability to mentor and foster independence in our students, giving them the skills to know ‘why’, not just ‘how’.
The most important qualifications to do this role, are compassion, enthusiasm and an understanding of what it takes to work with children and young adults with a disability. Communication will also be key, as this goes to the very heart of the support worker role – communicating, listening, understanding, adapting.
