St. John’s School and College is a SEN setting for young people with learning disabilities and autism, based on the coast of East Sussex. Our school is based in the tranquil town of Seaford and our college in the vibrant seaside city of Brighton. This role will be based at our Seaford site for 3 days a week.

Speech and Language Therapists play a vital role in meeting the educational, social, emotional, and physical needs of our children and young people.

Some of your duties will include:

  • Communicating effectively and working collaboratively with colleagues across the organisation to ensure exchange of information and delivery of a co-ordinated multi-disciplinary service.
  • Contributing to projects concerning Speech and Language Therapy service delivery and promoting positive employee relations within teams.
  • Communicating complex and sensitive condition-related information in an accessible way to carers, families, and members of the multi-disciplinary teams.
  • Writing reports and providing written and verbal advice to children and young people and their families, as well as other professionals. These will reflect your knowledge regarding the management and care of children and young people with a range of communication difficulties.
  • Working independently to develop individualised Speech and Language programmes to support the complex speech, language and social communication needs of our children and young people.
  • Maintaining case notes that reflect the full nature of the clinical decision-making processes and comply with Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC) and Royal College of Speech and Language Therapists’ (RCSLT) guidelines.
  • Providing training sessions to Education and Residential staff teams to support the implementation of a Total Communication Approach across the school.
  • Forming productive relationships with others who may be under stress and/or have challenging communication difficulties.

Specifics to role:

  • 40 hours per week, term time only
  • 38 weeks per year

The successful applicant must be registered with the HCPC and be a member of RCSLT. Ideally you should have experience of working in an educational setting with young people with a range of diagnoses.
