Assistant Houseparents / Personal Support Assistants, New College Worcester

New College Worcester is a nationally regarded non-maintained special school, devoted to the education of vision impaired young people aged 11 – 19.    We are seeking to appoint the following member for the Care team:


SALARY:  Scale 3, SCP 5-6, £19,650 – £20,043 – fte

Pro rata salary will be calculated on agreed working hours.

Our student numbers have increased – we are therefore looking to recruit to the rewarding positions of Personal Support Assistant and Assistant Houseparent.  The successful candidates will work alongside the Care teams (in the Junior Houses and Sixth Form Hostel) to provide high quality care and support to the students, all of whom are blind or vision impaired.  (No experience of vision impairment is required.)

If you would like to be part of our Care Team, and have the skills required, we would welcome your application.  The hours to be covered are 07.00-09.00 and 16.00-22.00 Monday to Fridays, and 07.00-23.00 at weekends.  Houseparents also cover sleep ins, for which extra payment is made.  We will accommodate any hours / times / days that you offer to suit your availability, ie from 2 hours a day to full time – we are open to discussion!

The roles involve getting to know the students and supporting them in a range of ways.  This includes;

  • Working with the Care team, to provide a warm, homely environment for the students.
  • Supporting students on an individual basis with care, learning, activities and socialising
  • Communicating with parents, to ensure a consistent quality of care.
  • Building trusting relationships.
  • Keeping paperwork up to date, and general housekeeping.
