‘Keeping children safe in education’ (DfE 2020) states that schools and FE colleges have a statutory responsibility to ensure that relevant staff and members of the proprietor body been trained in Safer Recruitment techniques as set out in part 3.
Essential CPD for Head teachers, principals and other staff involved in recruitment (e.g. HR staff, school administrators, bursars, volunteer coordinators and governors / trustees)
NASS are holding a virtual Safer Recruitment training event via Zoom with the training taking place in 2 half day sessions held over 2 consecutive days.
The dates for the training are 30th September 2020 and 1st October 2020 with timings of 1.15 pm (1.30 pm start) to 4.45pm on day 1, timings for day 2 are 9.15 am (9.30 am start) to 12.45 pm) to allow for screen breaks.
The course covers:
- Safer recruitment and the wider context of safeguarding
- Prevalence of abuse and profile of abusers
- How abusers operate within organisations
- Features of a safer recruitment process
- Planning a safer recruitment process
- Making the right decisions: interview and selection
- Maintaining an ongoing culture of vigilance
This accredited training course includes an assessment. To receive your certificate you must be in attendance for the whole event and complete the assessment at the end of the 2nd day. Certificates will be emailed to participants following the completion of the training.

Carolyn is a highly experienced and skilled trainer in the field of child protection and safeguarding. She has already run very successful training programmes for Designated Safeguarding Leads and Safer Recruitment within our sector and will work closely with NASS to ensure that this course meets our need.
