Safeguarding Learners over the age of 18 – 2nd May 2025 Friday 2nd May 2025 Online This Event is now Fully Booked

9.15 am (9:00 am registration) to 12:30 pm.

Many NASS schools / colleges have pupils over the age of 18, either in Y13 or in a provision for Y14 and above. As soon as a pupil reaches their 18th birthday, arrangements set out in KCSIE 2024 and local child protection multi-agency procedures no longer apply and special schools / colleges should be confident in their arrangements, responsibilities and referral routes for safeguarding adults at risk.

This half day course will cover:

  • The Care Act 2014 – what is an adult at risk?
  • Transitional safeguarding – the cliff edge between Child Protection and adult safeguarding
  • The role & responsibilities of the designated safeguarding adult lead (DSAL / DSL) and alerting managers (DDSLs)
  • The arrangements that settings must have in place to safeguard adults at risk
  • Making referrals to partner agencies – LA duties under s42, s9 & s11
  • Managing issues of consent

The training will be suitable for

  • DSLs and DDSLs in schools that have learners over the age of 18 (or who will turn 18 in their final year)
  • safeguarding staff and senior managers in special colleges, governors and trustees with safeguarding responsibilities in schools / colleges that have learners aged 18 and above
  • managers / safeguarding staff in outreach services for service users over the age of 18.
